Abstract

This report is an UNU-IAS document written and edited by David Leary. It draws upon the material from the 1st Polar Law Symposium, held in Akureyri, Iceland, in Sept. 2008. The report establishes recommendations addressing the key issues discussed in the Symposium. The report also contains a series of recommendations on further legal, scientific and other studies that should be undertaken in the immediate and near term future to better equip governments and policy makers to respond to these emerging issues.
