Arctic Portal Library

The objective of the Arctic Portal Library is to maintain a comprehensive collection of Arctic relevant scientific and educational material. The main focus is on material produced or published within the scope of International Polar Year 2007-2008, the Arctic Council and the University of Arctic. Moreover, material produced in various Arctic research programs and projects and within the scope of Arctic research institutions and organizations will be readily available in the Archive.

Arctic Portal Library

The Arctic Portal Library is the Arctic scientific publications archive of the arcticportal.org information gateway. The objective of the Arctic Portal Publications Archive is to maintain a comprehensive collection of Arctic relevant scientific and educational material. The main focus is on material produced or published within the scope of International Polar Year 2007-2008, the Arctic Council and the University of Arctic. Moreover, material produced in various Arctic research programs and projects and within the scope of Arctic research institutions and organizations will be readily available in the Archive. The archive contains a wide variety of articles and monographs as well as conference and workshop items, project materials and books. It also contains a large web link collection, the links ranging from Arctic related project web pages and research organization and NGOs homepages to interesting websites on Arctic related matters.

The archive is maintained by the Arctic Portal staff and updated regurarly to provide access to all the latest material regarding the Arctic region. Submission Policy

concerning depositors, quality & copyright
  1. Items may only be deposited by accredited members of the organisation, or their delegated agents.
  2. Authors may only submit their own work for archiving.
  3. Eligible depositors must deposit bibliographic metadata for all their publications.
  4. The administrator only vets items for the eligibility of authors/depositors, relevance to the scope of Arctic Portal Library, and the exclusion of spam
  5. The validity and authenticity of the content of submissions is not checked.
  6. Items can be deposited at any time, but will not be made publicly visible until any publishers' or funders' embargo period has expired.
  7. Any copyright violations are entirely the responsibility of the authors/depositors.
  8. If Arctic Portal Library receives proof of copyright violation, the relevant item will be removed immediately.

Preservation Policy

  1. No retention period defined.
  2. Arctic Portal Library will try to ensure continued readability and accessibility.
    • Items will be migrated to new file formats where necessary.
  3. Arctic Portal Library regularly backs up its files according to current best practice.
  4. Items may be removed at the request of the author/copyright holder.
  5. Acceptable reasons for withdrawal include:
    • Journal publishers' rules
    • Proven copyright violation or plagiarism
    • Legal requirements and proven violations
    • Falsified research
  6. Withdrawn items are not deleted per se, but are removed from public view.
  7. Withdrawn items' identifiers/URLs are retained transiently.
  8. URLs will continue to point to 'tombstone' citations, to avoid broken links and to retain item histories.
  9. If necessary, an updated version may be deposited.
    • The earlier version may be withdrawn from public view.
  10. In the event of Arctic Portal Library being closed down, the database will be transferred to another appropriate archive.
