Abstract

Fisheries and aquaculture make crucial contribu ons to the world’s well-being and prosperity. In addi on to an important food source, the f isheries sector provides livelihoods and income, both directly and indirectly. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organiza on (FAO), f ish and fishery products are among the most traded food commodi es worldwide. While capture fisheries produc on remains stable, aquaculture produc on keeps on expanding. Aquaculture is set to remain one of the fastest-growing animal food-producing sectors. This factsheet highlights some of the issues in rela on to sub-Arc c capture fisheries, aquaculture and their relevance to the European Union.
